The Professional Counselor (TPC) is excited to announce the launch of TPC Global, a new initiative designed to spotlight international counseling scholarship. By providing a platform for research and scholarship that addresses global mental health issues and interventions, TPC Global will support efforts by the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC) to advance mental health worldwide.

TPC Global will be a special section of the journal in which we will elevate international counseling scholarship that expands the knowledge base on mental health, wellness, and culturally grounded approaches to care. We seek submissions from counseling scholars located outside of the United States as well as from U.S.-based scholars whose work is geographically contextualized outside of the United States.

We are especially interested in submissions that:

  • address country- or region-specific mental health needs.
  • discuss global efforts to advance equal access to mental health.
  • offer empirical findings relevant to mental health needs and treatment practices outside of the United States.
  • apply Indigenous and decolonial healing frameworks to counseling practice.
  • apply traditional theoretical and conceptual frameworks—or critique their use—in international contexts.
  • provide philosophical and ideological underpinnings for advocacy and policy work from non-Western perspectives.
  • connect to internationalization efforts of professional counseling organizations.

Submissions for TPC Global will advance through our standard submission process. Within the submission form, authors are able to designate their submission for consideration in TPC Global by selecting the Global Topics or Authorship item.
